Lead Barista Role at Stouthaus
The Story
The Barista Lead is responsible for quality control of the brewing and the serving of coffee beverages. This Leader serves as a role model to the shop barista team through their own customer hospitality and drink preparation efforts. This role also works closely with our Head of Coffee to perform on-the-job coffee education and training of other store team members.
Coffee Education (Processes / Inventory / QC)

New hire/staff ongoing espresso training and testing
Ensure that the drinks and hospitality consistently meet SC’s standards by educating, coaching and developing new and current team members.

Be knowledgeable of rotating coffee offerings (attributes, preparation) through weekly cupping with the roasting team.

Ensure staff awareness of origin and tasting notes of various coffees we retail (how to explain to customers)

Assist the Roaster to dial in our ratios and recipes at across locations - Trailer and 4715 (ratios/grind settings as origins change)

Staff training (spro, pour overs, etc.)

Regularly taste coffee drinks made by baristas

Offer positive and constructive feedback to team members on the quality and consistency of drink preparation, bar cleanliness, professionalism, and customer service

Quality checks for cold brew and nitro coffee // Other SC signature drinks
Outreach (Relationships / Networking)
Consider any opportunities for SC to engage in coffee-related events (Austin Coffee Society, Coffee Fest, throw down hosting, etc.)
Self Management and Leadership Expectations

Lead by example at all times; show how a highly skilled and hospitable barista approaches your work in preparing drinks, serving guests, and helping teammates

Look at shop operations and customer relations through the eyes of the ownership team (product waste, shop/bar cleanliness, etc). Working with manager for any staff involvement or planning.

Creating opportunity for seasonal drink team involvement

Keep management in the loop on things you’re learning and wanting to try out/change

Observe the team for anyone you can bring along (examples:)

Is someone a good trainer or have teaching skills you could empower?
