Our new coffee of the month for August comes from the country of El Salvador. This beautiful natural processed coffee comes from the region of Ahuachapan, specifically grown between the Santa Ana Volcano and Lago de Coatepeque. We taste honeysuckle, white peach, and sweet cream in this sweet and floral coffee that finishes with a smooth, creamy body. We recommend having it as a lovely pour over to finish out the summer!
A little bit about where this coffee comes from:
The story of the Belismelis family in coffee begins with Don Emilio Belismelis who came to El Salvador in 1863, coming from Cádiz, Spain. Don Emilio settled in the department of Santa Ana, and dedicated his life to growing coffee and raising his family in the country. Currently the coffee farms are managed by Raul Alvarez Belismelis and Sebastian Alvarez Borgonovo, the fifth and sixth generation of the Belismelis family, continuing to incorporate and encourage new generations to fall in love with the coffee sector.
The family has 15 farms in all the coffee-growing regions of the country, totaling 880 ha, the majority being in the western part of the country. The Belismelis family continues to believe in the coffee sector, maintaining and investing in the properties. All the farms of the family group maintain certifications such as with the Rainforest Forest Alliance, which keeps them hand in hand with social welfare projects for the people who collaborate on the farm. Through the collaboration with Los Volcanes Coffee they’ve improved the practices at farm level creating higher quality and high yielding coffee while lowering costs of production.
