A little about the coffee: 

In the 6 years Siruma has been working in these regions, they have developed a common language with the farmers they work with through training them to evaluate coffees themselves and developing different coffee profiles. In many cases with farmer-exporter relationships, the power dynamic is that the communities do not have labs to evaluate community lots properly, and some exporters take advantage of this by paying for lower price points and selling to their customers at a higher rate. Siruma builds trust with these farmers with education and feedback, ensuring honest relationships where farmers are emboldened and treated with the respect they deserve.
